Who are Minnesota Gun Rights?
What Minnesota Gun Owners Need to Know
Outrage Artists, Not Advocates
For over a decade, the Dorr brothers—Ben, Aaron, Matthew, and Chris—have operated a network of political front groups posing as gun rights organizations. But unlike real grassroots advocates, they don’t write legislation, rarely testify at the Capitol, never file or win lawsuits, or flip seats.
What they do is attack. They attack legitimate pro-gun leaders, mislead gun owners, and raise money off manufactured outrage. We’ve stayed silent long enough. Now it’s time for the truth.
Their Business Model: Exploiting Outrage for Profit
The Dorr brothers run a playbook they’ve perfected across more than a dozen states:
- Target the real pro–Second Amendment group already doing the hard work.
- Launch personal attacks claiming that group is “weak,” “compromised,” or “not conservative enough.”
- Proclaim themselves the only “true” defenders of gun rights.
- Smear pro-gun legislators, claiming betrayal is always just around the corner.
- Flood social media with rage bait—videos, memes, conspiracy theories, and false alarms.
- Fundraise off the chaos. Deliver nothing. Repeat in the next state.
They’ve built a turnkey outrage franchise—low effort, high return.
Instead of developing strategies tailored to the real 2A threats in each state, the Dorrs copy and paste the same inflammatory content, designed to mislead busy gun owners into donating.
No results. No wins. Just rage for revenue.
“They don’t lobby,” said State Rep. Jim Nash, R-Waconia, a frequent sponsor of pro-gun legislation yet a past target of the Dorrs’ incendiary and often personal barbs. “They don’t interact with people. They don’t send suggestions in to help make bills better. They don’t do anything other than take videos, post to Facebook and do the elaborate scheming that they do to make money off of donors who think that they’re actually donating to something that makes a difference.”

What They’re Doing in Minnesota
Attacks on the Caucus
The Dorrs have spent years attacking the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus—calling us “woke,” “anti-Christian,” and worse.
Why? Because we’re doing what they never have: delivering results.
We’ve:
- Sued Keith Ellison—and won 4 times in federal court, striking down Minnesota’s age-based carry ban.
- Blocked anti-gun bills session after session.
- Passed pro-gun legislation
- Sued Walz and Ellison over the Omnibus bill + the binary trigger ban.
- Surveyed, graded, and endorsed candidates for State Legislature & Constitutional Offices
- Filed multiple Amicus briefs in 2A cases across the country with our state and national partners

Attacks on Caucus Volunteers
Multiple times at the Ahlman’s Shooters Roundup, the only gun show in the state that Minnesota Gun Rights hasn’t been banned from, Ben Dorr from Minnesota Gun Rights has attacked our volunteers.

Attacks on Pro-Gun Legislators
The Dorrs routinely target the very legislators working with us to advance gun rights. That includes:
- Former Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka
- Senator Cal Bahr
- Senator Glenn Gruehagen
- Rep. Mary Franson
- Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach
- Rep. Jim Nash
- A group of 16 MN House Republicans who publicly disavowed MGR.
These are proven, pro-2A lawmakers. The Dorrs undermine them to build their donor base.
Misleading on Second Amendment Policy
Ben Dorr was caught on audio attacking the legalization of suppressors in Minnesota—a victory led by the Caucus. That’s not principled. That’s sabotage.

Beyond Guns: A Broader Set of Lies
The Dorrs also operate under other names in multiple states: Minnesota Right to Life, Iowa Gun Owners, Ohio Gun Owners, and more. They’ve impersonated legitimate pro-life organizations and drawn warnings from groups like MCCL.

Legal Action & Accountability
In February 2023, the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus sent a formal Cease and Desist Letter to Ben Dorr and Minnesota Gun Rights for their false statements, defamation, and misrepresentation of our work.
We had to do this because MGR & Ben Dorr were publishing emails and articles claiming we were lobbying for a gun control bill, and going door to door at the State Capitol, encouraging Republicans to vote for the bill.

Why This Matters
Some people ask, “Isn’t this just a personal feud?”
It’s not. This isn’t about hurt feelings—it’s about protecting the future of the Second Amendment movement in Minnesota and across the country.
The Dorr brothers use the same playbook in every state:
Attack the credible group. Confuse the grassroots. Inflate the outrage. Collect the donations. Disappear when the real work begins.
They’ve done it in Iowa, Ohio, New York, Florida, and more than a dozen other states. And in every case, they leave behind a divided, demoralized base—and a weakened movement that’s less able to stop gun control.
In Minnesota, we’ve worked tirelessly to build a broad, effective coalition—earning the trust of legislators, county sheriffs, and the courts.
When the Dorrs spread lies and conspiracy theories about our work, they aren’t just attacking us.
They’re undermining your rights and sabotaging the people doing the heavy lifting to protect them.
This is about truth, integrity, and results. If we let losers like this lead, we lose.
That’s why we’re calling them out—and why we’ll continue to.

If you want to be part of the only team in Minnesota winning for gun owners:
Responses from MN Gun Owners Caucus Members and Supporters
As a passionate advocate of the 2nd Amendment, I am at the Capitol every year, meeting with my representatives to advocate for gun rights. I’ve testified for pro-gun bills in the legislature, as well as testified against gun control bills.
Since they came upon the scene over 10 years ago, I have never seen so-called “Minnesota” Gun Rights engaging in any advocacy at the Capitol. They instead attack the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus and its members – people like me – who are actually putting in the effort.
Simply put, these guys are scam artists and frauds. Their entire business model is to attack legitimate gun rights advocates in MN so they can drum up outrage to get “donations” which they then funnel into other business ventures, many of which are based in other states. They aren’t fighting for gun rights – they are lining their pockets.
If you want to contribute to genuine, successful advocacy in Minnesota, the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus will put your support to good use.
