Elections Decide the Fate of the Second Amendment
At the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, we know that elections are where the battle for the Second Amendment is won — or lost. That’s why we engage directly in the political process through the Caucus and our connected political fund, the Minnesota Gun Owners Political Action Committee (MNGOPAC).
Every election cycle, we:
- Recruit Pro–Second Amendment Candidates – Encouraging strong defenders of freedom to step up and run for office.
- Evaluate and Grade Candidates – Examining surveys, voting records, public statements, and sponsorship of legislation to separate real defenders from pretenders.
- Publish a Legislative Scorecard – A clear, easy-to-read record of how every legislator actually voted on the Second Amendment. Promises don’t matter — votes do.
- Train Grassroots Leaders – Equipping caucus attendees, delegates, and activists with the tools to make an impact in the political process.
- Endorse Pro–Second Amendment Candidates – Standing behind those who align with our priorities and will fight with us in Saint Paul.
We focus on state-level offices — the Minnesota House, Senate, and statewide constitutional offices (Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and State Auditor) — as well as County Sheriffs, who play a critical role in the Permit to Carry system.
Note: We do not survey, grade, or endorse candidates for federal office.

Candidate Grading & Endorsement
The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus grades candidates, while our connected political fund — the Minnesota Gun Owners PAC (MNGOPAC) — endorses candidates. Both organizations share the same leadership and Board of Directors, ensuring consistency and accountability in the process.
How We Grade Candidates
Our grading process is rigorous and based on multiple factors, including
• Candidate Survey – Every candidate receives a detailed survey covering our legislative priorities.
• Public Record – Voting history, authored bills, public statements, and campaign positions.
• Alignment with Allies – Consideration of grades from other like-minded pro–Second Amendment organizations.
Our Board of Directors reviews and approves all grading recommendations to ensure accuracy and integrity.
Why Voting Records Matter
Talk is cheap.
A candidate’s actual votes in public office are the most reliable measure of where they stand on the Second Amendment. You can explore our Legislative Scorecard to see exactly how incumbents voted on bills, amendments, and motions we’ve scored in recent legislative sessions.

The Minnesota Gun Owners Political Action Committee
The Minnesota Gun Owners Political Action Committee (MNGOPAC) is our connected state political fund – and is recognized by the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board as such.
As a political fund, or political action committee, donations to the Minnesota Gun Owners PAC are not tax-deductible.
The Minnesota Gun Owners Political Action Committee typically spends independently in elections in Minnesota (called Independent Expenditures) and endorses candidates that meet our endorsement criteria.
