Recently our organization has been calling on lawmakers to rise above the emotionally-driven push for divisive gun control and seek effective solutions for which there is significant common ground.
The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus has long advocated for an increase in strategically applied mental health resources and strong support and secure infrastructure to protect our loved ones in our schools.
When evaluating potential legislation, there are areas that are complete non-starters for the law-abiding gun owners of Minnesota that we represent:
- We will not accept arbitrary barriers of entry to the exercise of the right to keep and bear arms by Minnesotans
- No person shall be deprived of property or their liberty without due process of law
- Any emergency court order that treats firearms as an extreme risk while failing to address the individual in crisis
We anxiously await the actual legislative text of the proposals shared in the US Senate’s gun control framework. As we have often seen, the unintended consequences of these proposals extend well beyond simple political talking points.
Our organization will continue to seek solutions that have a proven track record of improving public safety and will vehemently oppose any efforts to infringe on the fundamental constitutional rights of Minnesotans.
