St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus issued the statement below in response to President Biden calling for a ban on assault weapons and “high capacity” magazines:
“President Biden’s renewed calls for gun control should shock nobody. For decades, he has pushed ineffective and unconstitutional policies that infringe on the constitutional rights of Americans and have no effect on crime,” said Bryan Strawser, Chairman, Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus. “Banning firearms in common use didn’t work in the ’90s, won’t work now, and is still blatantly unconstitutional. We should, instead, invest in pragmatic policies that reduce violent crime and improve mental health.”
“Tonight, President Biden joined Governor Walz in calling for a magazine capacity ban,” said Rob Doar, SVP, Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus. “Magazine capacity bans are blatantly unconstitutional and have no impact on violent crime. I’m disappointed, but not surprised, that the President has elevated rhetoric above objective facts. We must push back against this misinformation and fight all forms of gun control federally and here in Minnesota.”
The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus firmly opposes all forms of gun control and is actively working to restore and defend our constitutional right to bear arms. Visit gunowners.mn to join the fight, donate, or volunteer.
