What is HF 2609?
What it does
- Redefines a “binary trigger” as a machine gun in state law. Possession of a binary trigger would trigger a 20 year state felony crime.
- Current owners would have to do one of the following by January 1st, 2025 if they possess a binary trigger:
- Destroy it
- Sell it out of state
- Move it out of state
- Turn it in to law enforcement
- There is no grandfathering and no compensation for the property.
- The bill also increases the penalty for “straw purchasing” in state law and requires a report from the BCA on gun trafficking investigations.
