The government will always be two steps behind emerging technology. Rather than focus efforts on prosecuting criminal use and acquisition of firearms, the ATF is chasing its tail trying to figure out how to prevent hobbyists from creating their own lawful firearms.
Next up, the ATF will attempt to figure out how they can ban blocks of aluminum.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is expected to adopt a new rule in the coming weeks with the potential to undermine the DIY gun industry: It will require that the metal parts that hobbyists used to manufacture their so-called ghost guns be registered as legal firearms.
