PRESS RELEASE: MN Gun Owners Caucus condemns MN AG Keith Ellison’s frivolous lawsuit against Glock, Inc.

Today, the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus issued the following statement condemning Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s frivolous lawsuit against Glock, Inc.:

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, working with the gun control group Giffords and the anti-gun law clinic at the University of Minnesota Law School, has filed a lawsuit against handgun manufacturer Glock, Inc.  This frivolous lawsuit attempts to hold Glock responsible for the actions of criminals that have so far escaped Ellison’s focus as Minnesota’s chief law enforcement officer.

Since 1982, Glock, Inc. has been producing handguns widely used in military, police, and civilian applications. Glock pistols are known for their simplicity of design and remarkable reliability.

Criminals in Minnesota are illegally modifying Glock firearms, turning them into automatic weapons that are prohibited by both state and federal law.  Instead of targeting the criminal misuse of firearms, Ellison is attempting to blame the manufacturer.

“This lawsuit is another example of Keith Ellison using his office, not for the interests of public safety, but to push a partisan anti-gun agenda,” said Rob Doar, Senior Vice President of Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus.  “Courts have long held that manufacturers cannot be held responsible for the misuse of their products.  Instead of pandering to national anti-gun groups to boost his political clout, Ellison should focus on cracking down on the armed criminals terrorizing Minnesotans and putting public safety at risk.”

“Minnesota taxpayers are being forced to bankroll this frivolous lawsuit and other anti-gun schemes funneled through the anti-gun clinic at the University of Minnesota,” said Bryan Strawser, Chair. “With a massive budget deficit on the horizon, legislators must end this blatant taxpayer-funded lawfare against Minnesotans’ constitutional rights.”
